John Wootton, Travcoa Travel Director

JOHN WOOTTON

Born and still based some 40 miles west of London, John smiles when he recalls that following schooling and university, he was destined to spend the rest of his life as an accountant, working in the London Stock Market. However, with the chance to travel, he accepted a temporary job as a junior purser on a cruise ship, helping with finance on board. His sea career saw him moving from accounts, to being a cruise director, part of his duties including looking after the travel side on board with shore excursions and his own slide talks and port lectures.

After his shipping days and being involved with travel in South Africa, John and his “Wootton’s World” of travel joined us here at Travcoa. He has been leading our tours now for over thirty years, in which time he has traveled on most of our itineraries, some many times, from Iceland and Greenland in the north, to the Antarctic in the south.

When asked where is his favorite area of the world in which to travel, he smiles and believes that the world is always a changing place and even two tours back-to-back, can see two completely different results. Things change, the weather is never the same and the travelers see and pick up on different aspects of places visited. But for him, best of all is to see his tour members enjoying themselves, wherever the tour and to share the great wonders and education of travel.
