Travel Tales from India
When Milton and Marcy Miller arranged their trip to India, they knew they would be celebrating Milton’s 74th birthday there. What they didn’t know was just how big the celebration would be. The evening of Milton’s birthday, the couple and their traveling companions arrived at a farm house in Jodhpur dressed in traditional Indian garb. Unbeknownst to them, their travel director and journey hostess, Amber Medkiff, had arranged an elaborate surprise party at this family home. "As we approached the house, we encountered four camels and a host of Indian dancers lining the drive," Marcy said. "Later, we were treated to a traditional dinner on the sprawling lawn and a live performance by fire eaters." The surprise was more than a nice birthday present; it was the highlight of the journey. According to Marcy, "dining and interacting with the local Indian family highlighted the similarities we all share as human beings." "When you go into a culture like India with an open mind, you see more than poverty or ethnicity; you see a grandfather whose grandchild is laughing as she rides on the handlebars of his bike or a

woman whose smile looks a lot like yours." It was an experience that reaffirmed the couple’s appreciation for Travcoa. "We’ve traveled with many other high-end tour companies and have found Travcoa to be one of the best," Marcy says. "The people there really go out of their way to provide top-notch personal service." The Classical India journey was not the couple’s first with Travcoa. The previous year, the duo traveled to South America on another escorted journey. "On our first experience with Travcoa we went without knowing any of our other companions," Marcy said. "Within days, we were all great friends. In fact, it’s easier to go without knowing people because it makes you open to branching out and experiencing things from a new perspective." The South American travel group got along so well that one of the couples joined Milton and Marcy on their journey to India. "It was a wonderful trip, with wonderful friends," Marcy said, "an evening that ended as spectacularly as it began, with ‘Happy Birthday Milton’ written in fireworks across the sky."
