DAYS 3 & 4Cuzco & the Urubamba Valley Visit one of the remarkable ruins of the Inca Empire, the cultural center of Sacsayhuamán. In San Blas, we’ll visit its beautiful colonial church. Then it's on to the Santo Domingo Convent Monastery, once the Koricancha temple - the most important Inca temple dedicated to the worship of the sun. Travel to the Urubamba Valley, the "Sacred Valley of the Incas," and continue to the Pisac handicraft market. At the Wayra Ranch, enjoy homemade empanadas. DAY 5Machu Picchu In the morning, board the Vistadome train to Machu Picchu, "The Lost City of the Incas," which was discovered by American explorer, Hiram Bingham in 1911. DAY 6Machu Picchu & Cuzco Today we recommend rising early enough to witness the sunrise over the ruins, a spectacular sight. For hiking enthusiasts, the view from the peak of Huayna Picchu is well worth the trek. In the afternoon, return to Cuzco on the Hiram Bingham train and enjoy a silver service four-course dinner on board. (B, L)
