DAYS 1 – 3

Arrive in Nairobi on Day 2 and visit Dame Daphne Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage. Get up close and personal with rescued baby elephants as they feed and play, and learn about how they are cared for before they are returned to the wild. At the Giraffe Center Wildlife Preserve you can view these magnificent animals in their natural habitat and even feed them. Visit the house of author Karen Blixen who wrote Out of Africa, her memoirs of 17 years spent in Kenya.

DAYS 4 & 5

Watch for herds of elephants from your light aircraft flight to Amboseli. Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives in the park, spotting elephants, Cape buffalos, lions, baboons, antelopes and fringe-eared oryx. Snowcapped Mt. Kilimanjaro looms ever-present on the horizon. Learn about the long-term conservation and welfare of Africa’s elephants on a visit to the Amboseli Elephant Research Project.

DAYS 6 – 8

Fly to Masai Mara for three unforgettable days of exploration. Your accommodation is a private camp reserved exclusively for Travcoa. The Masai Mara is one of the largest and most well-known wildlife reserves in Africa. It has an abundance of the “Big Five” wildlife (elephants, rhinos, Cape buffalos, lions and leopards) as well as the opportunity to interact with the friendly Masai people and learn about their culture. DAYS 10 & 11

On your way to Ngorongoro, visit the Tloma Primary School to learn about the area’s rural school system. Meet some members of the Iraqw tribe at a local village. The following day, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater — “Africa’s Garden of Eden” — teeming with lions, elephants, wildebeests, zebras, rhinos, gazelles and buffalos.

Hidden among the rocky outcrops or kopjes of the vast Serengeti plains, this camp that exudes decadence reminiscent of old Africa. The split-level lounge, cigar bar, restaurant, sundecks and swimming pool are perched among the outcrops and overlook the vast and rugged landscapes that are home to the world’s greatest mammal migration. The Sunset Deck—a vast wooden deck, with a fireplace and a number of directors' chairs—is a popular evening gathering place to watch the sunset over the Lobo River, whilst enjoying a drink from the bar. 

Set along a stone pathway is the dining area, the lounge has a total open front, with views across the river. Breakfast is an extensive spread, with fresh bread, cereal, yogurt and fruit. There is also a cooked breakfast option. For lunch, you can take a tasty packed lunch to eat whilst you are out in the bush or come back to the camp for the buffet style lunch spread. For dinner the He camp restaurant offer elegant dining of inventive dishes. 

Twenty large and spacious tents have been carefully placed to provide privacy and blend into nature’s architecture, overlooking the Grumeti River and its resident hippos. Surrounded by a 360-degree verandah deck, with a specious 480 sq. feet of internal floor space, each sits on a raised wooden platform, with wooden doors, part stone and part and canvas walls, and a canvas roof. The en-suite bathrooms sit behind canvas curtains, to one side of the bedroom. Here you will find a beautiful dark wooden surface, into which twin his-and-hers sinks are set; behind a small dividing wall is a proper flush-toilet. You will also find a hot-and-cold shower and a hair dryer. There is also laundry service is included.

Born and raised in Nairobi, Patricia obtained her B.S. in International Relations at Lock Haven University in the U.S. and currently lives in Western Kenya. East African history, wildlife conservation issues and elephant behavior are among Patricia’s interests; she currently serves as the Director of the Pan-African Wildlife Conservation Network. She speaks several languages and has worked as a guide and Travel Director for 25 years.
