DAY 1Arrive Cairo, Egypt Welcome to Egypt. You are met on arrival at Cairo airport, and then transferred to your luxury hotel. Settle into this exotic city and enjoy your room with a view of the Nile River. This afternoon enjoy time at leisure to relax or explore this capital city. Four Seasons Nile Plaza, Cairo DAY 2Cairo Sightseeing See the highlights of the city of Cairo today, starting with the truly incomparable Egyptian Museum. Examine the fascinating treasures of the Tutankhamen collection; learn about ancient Egypt’s funerary rites when you visit the Mummies Room. Next, drive to the Citadel and see the Ottoman‐style Mohammed Ali Mosque, a Cairo landmark. Then you have time to explore and barter in the renowned Khan El Khalili Bazaar, with its colorful souqs and cafes. Enjoy a special lunch at a local restaurant, with the remainder of the day at leisure. Explore the city, shop or just relax. (B, L) Four Seasons Nile Plaza, Cairo DAY 3Cairo to Luxor & Embark Nile River Cruise Fly to Luxor this morning to embark on your 8‐Day Nile cruise aboard the luxurious M/S Jaz Senator. The ship holds only 17 suites – each generous in size and with large panoramic windows that open to a private balcony. After a delightful lunch on board, enjoy a leisurely afternoon viewing life along the Nile. Your ship embarks this evening, headed south towards Edfu. (B, L, D) M/S Jaz Senator, Nile Cruise DAY 4Nile Cruise: Edfu This morning, disembark in Edfu, for a tour of the beautifully preserved sandstone Temple of Horus — one of the finest examples of Ptolemaic art in Egypt. In the evening, the boat sails on towards Aswan. (B, L, D) M/S Jaz Senator, Nile Cruise DAY 5Nile Cruise: Aswan After breakfast on board, disembark this morning to explore Aswan. View the High Dam and learn its importance to the water and power of Egypt. Next, explore an ancient granite quarry and see the gigantic unfinished obelisk, and then visit the Temple of Philae. Return to the ship for lunch, then this afternoon board a traditional Felucca to enjoy sailing around Elephantine Island and have a visit to a Nubian Village. Return to your ship for dinner and an evening at leisure. (B, L, D) M/S Jaz Senator, Nile Cruise DAY 6Nile Cruise: Abu Simbel & Kom Ombo Early this morning take a flight excursion to visit Abu Simbel and see its impressive, over‐ powering 3,300‐year‐old temples carved out of a hillside to honor Ramses II. On your return to Aswan, re‐board the ship in time for lunch, and then your cruise continues, travelling north on the Nile. This afternoon stop in Kom Ombo to tour the famed double temple of Haroeris (the falcon‐headed god) and Sobek (the Crocodile god). (B, L, D) M/S Jaz Senator, Nile Cruise DAY 7Nile Cruise: Esna & Luxor Today relax aboard your luxury vessel as you cruise on the Nile. Get a glimpse of rural Egyptian life as you pass by villages with their fishing boats, mud‐houses and towering minarets. Cruise to Luxor, an important modern‐day town with a history dating back 4,000 years, arriving in the evening. (B, L, D) M/S Jaz Senator, Nile Cruise DAY 8Nile Cruise: Luxor Spend all day exploring the wonders of Luxor. This morning is devoted to Luxor’s West Bank. Tour the Valley of the Kings, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its more than 60 excavated royal tombs. Venture down inside a tomb and you will be amazed at the well‐preserved colors and intricate beauty of the carvings. Explore the Valley of the Queens, surrounded by impressive cliffs, and home to the tombs of queens, concubines and children. See the Colossi of Memnon statues and the Temple of Madinat Habu. In the afternoon, visit Luxor’s East Bank to tour the sacred Luxor Temple, among the most beautiful in Egypt, and where you can examine the evidence it also contained a Christian church and Muslim mosque. You also tour the vast Temple of Karnak, the largest ancient temple complex, containing the ruins of three main temples as well as chapels and pylons. (B, L, D) M/S Jaz Senator, Nile Cruise DAY 9Nile Cruise: Qena & Luxor Today take a day‐trip north, sailing to the small village of Qena to visit the Dendera Temple. Built in approximately 30 BC, this young temple was dedicated to Hathor, the cow goddess of maternal and family love; it was also a healing center. Today this is one of the best‐preserved temples in all of Egypt. This afternoon, cruise back to Luxor where the ship anchors for the night. Enjoy the last evening of your cruise and living on the Nile. (B, L, D) M/S Jaz Senator, Nile Cruise DAY 10Disembark Cruise & Cairo This morning bid farewell to your home on the Nile, and fly back to Cairo. You are met at the airport, and taken to your historic hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure to relax in your Pyramid‐view room. (B) Oberoi Mena House Garden Hotel, Cairo DAY 11Cairo Sightseeing Spend the entire day explore the wonders of Cairo. This morning explore visit Pyramids of Giza – dating back nearly 5,000 years and one of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World. Venture inside one of the Royal Burial Chambers and see the funerary boat of Cheops. View the Great Sphinx of Giza – a monumental statue carved from a single block of stone. After lunch at a local restaurant, drive to tour the ancient city of Memphis, the oldest capital of Egypt. Here admire the finely detailed, colossal 120‐ton statue of Ramses II, and the stunning 80‐ton Alabaster Sphinx. Explore Sakkara, the oldest ancient Egyptian cemetery, to see the Step Pyramid. It is the oldest pyramid, and the first large limestone construction in the world. (B, L) Oberoi Mena House Garden Hotel, Cairo DAY 12Cairo to Alexandria This morning depart Cairo for a leisurely drive north to Alexandria. Founded by Alexander the Great in 331 BC, this is the Roman city where Cleopatra met Caesar. Arrive by mid afternoon, with the rest of the day is at leisure. Enjoy your hotel, a seaside tower with stunning views over the sea and the glittering city. (B) Four Seasons San Stefano, Alexandria DAY 13Alexandria Sightseeing Today, explore this city known as “the Pearl of the Mediterranean.” Begin with a visit to the Alexandria National Museum, with extensive collections that narrate the Pharaonic, Greek, Roman, Coptic, Islamic and modern history of Egypt. Continue to explore the Catacombs of Kom el‐Shuqafa and the nearly perfectly preserved Roman amphitheater. After lunch, see the impressive assemblage of books in the Alexandria Library and visit Pompey's Pillar, the city’s tallest ancient monument. (B) Four Seasons San Stefano, Alexandria DAY 14Alexandria to Sharm el Sheikh Today fly from Alexandria to Sharm el Sheikh on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula. This beautiful area offers scenery and vistas ranging from the arid desert to crystal blue waters to mountain ranges. On arrival, you are met and transferred to your luxurious seaside resort. You can relax and enjoy the amenities or optional activities at your hotel including swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving in the Gulf of Aqaba’s spectacular landscape of coral and sea life. (B) Four Seasons Resort, Sharm el Sheikh DAY 15St. Catherine's Excursion Today is a full day excursion to visit St Catherine’s, the oldest working monastery in the world. En route, admire the Sinai desert landscape, and the amazing views of the granite mountains as you drive along the old caravan road that was used by Nabatians. Built in the 4th century, St. Catherine’s is a working monastery and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the inside of the church, with its magnificent mosaic depicting the transfiguration of Jesus. Visit the Library, considered the second in importance only to the Vatican ‐ it contains more than 3000 manuscripts and artifacts. The church is built enclosing the Chapel of the Burning Bush, erected on the sacred site where Moses is said to have seen the burning bush. The only bush of its kind growing in the entire Sinai peninsula, it is said to be the original. After lunch and independent exploration in St. Catherine city, drive back through the scenic desert to your resort hotel, arriving by later afternoon.
