The highlight here is Victoria Falls, “The Smoke That Thunders,” and an elephant-back safari. Savute Elephant Camp

Situated on the Savute Channel, Savute Elephant Camp offers an oasis-type setting in complete luxury. The 12 twin-bedded luxury canvas tents, recently placed under thatch, are perfectly suited to the desert air and feature lavishly appointed en suite bathrooms and dressing areas. They also have private viewing decks and comfortable outdoor lounges overlooking the channel. The tent interiors are luxuriously appointed with such comforts as a private fully stocked mini-bar, in-room safe, and four-poster bed with mosquito netting, as well as air-conditioning.

Royal Livingstone Hotel
Livingstone, Zambia

The Royal Livingstone Hotel, a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, is located within the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park and stretches luxuriously along the Zambezi River banks overlooking Victoria Falls. The hotel consists of a series of 17 colonial-style buildings, with deep verandahs, set amidst indigenous trees and plants. The main hotel is a sequence of thatch-roofed buildings and incorporates the lounge, restaurant and bar. The huge free-form pool meanders around a pavilion restaurant and an outdoor bandstand and dance floor. The spa is located adjacent to the reception area for massage or hair and beauty services.

A classic swimming pool visually links the waters of the river with the terraces of the hotel, with a sweeping timber deck planted in the swirling water of the Zambezi. The resort's deep, shaded verandah, offers an uninterrupted view of the Zambezi River, there is a well-stocked library, and the lounge is filled with original artwork depicting scenes of David Livingstone's great African adventures.

The food served in the Livingstone Dining Room is inspired by the mixed influences of Africa and is some of the best haute cuisine on the African Continent. Lunch is served alfresco on The Veranda; in the casual and informal Zambezi Sun chefs cook in front of their guests; the Poolside Grill is located alongside the entertainment floor at the pool; Squires Grill offers a tasty lunch and dinner dishes; the Crocodile Café is a delightful coffee shop; and High Tea is served daily in The Lounge.

Only footsteps from the Zambezi River, the 173 rooms and suites are located in two-story clusters, each cluster with 10 en suite air-conditioned rooms, offering private balconies or terraces. Interior furnishings accentuate the influences of Africa and the luxurious sized showers allow natural light to filter through a milk-glass window. Kapani Safari Lodge
South Luangwa National Park

Kapani Lodge is an exclusive, privately owned camp located close to the main gate of the South Luangwa National Park. It is ideally located at the edge of a large lagoon beside the Luangwa River. This is the legacy of the great Norman Carr, who built Kapani in 1986 and made it his home until his death in 1997. During the 50 years in the Luangwa Valley, Norman earned a reputation across the African continent as a tireless conservationist and was the founding father of photographic walking safari. He also believed it was not possible or right to preserve wildlife but ignore the rights and welfare of local people so he introduced the idea of tourism which directly benefited the local community – eco-tourism is spoken about now as a new concept but Norman Carr was doing it more than 50 years ago. His legacy now continues to live through his family and dedicated staff.

A thatched building in the center of camp houses the lounge and library. The bar and dining area overlooks the Kapani Lagoon where there is plenty of space for guests to relax between game activities. There is a telescope on the deck for guests to spot the countless species of birds and animals. There is a secluded swimming pool and small gift shop offering books and local crafts. Kapani has developed a reputation for cuisine of excellent quality. Weather permitting, dining is al fresco with dinner taken on the terrace, on the spacious deck overlooking the lagoon. There are ten brick and thatch rooms, each designed for the warm Zambian weather, with large gauze windows, high ceilings and overhead fans. Travcoa guests stay in suites including an adjoining bathroom with full facilities, a small lounge area and bar fridge.
